Sri Jagannath Mishra, the father of Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu, appeared at Dhaka Daksina in Srihatta or Sylhet. He was a brähmaëa of the Vätsya clan. His father was Upendra Miçra and his mother was Çrématé Çobhä Devé. The couple gave birth to seven children: Kaàsäri, Paramänanda, Padmanäbha, Sarveçvara, Jagannätha, Janärdana, and Trailokyanätha. Of the seven, only Jagannätha Miçra came to Navadvépa and became a scholar.
The maternal grandfather of Mahäprabhu was Nilambar Chakraborty. He was a great astrologer and was the combined incarnation of Garga Muni and Sumukha Gopa, the father of Yaçodä Devé. He also appeared in Srihatta. His wife’s name was Viläsiné Devé. They had two sons, Yogeçvara Paëòita and Ratnagarva Äcärya. They also had two girls, Çacédevé and Sarvajaya Devé. They all shifted to Belpukur in Navadvépa and lived there permanently.
After completing the studies in Navadvépa, Jagannätha Miçra married Çacédevé, the daughter of Nilambar Chakraborty, and they lived in Navadvépa. Candraçekhara Äcärya, the husband of Sarvajaya Devé, also lived in Navadvépa. Candraçekhara was born in Srihatta, and according to local history, he lived some years in Bakla Candradvépa.
An book by Jayananda named Caitanya Maìgala states that Jaipur village is the place where Nilambar Chakraborty lived and is where Çacémätä was born, but there is no sign of their ancient home. Recently, a grand temple has been built in remembrance of Nilambar Chakraborty and his daughter Çacédevé.
How to Go There
By Bus: To go to Jaipur village, one should get down at Bahubal or Mirpur of Habiganj district on the Dhaka-Sylhet bypass highway. One can reach there directly on the Srimangal bound bus.
By Train: Intercity trains are available daily for the Dhaka-Sylhet route. To go to Jaipur village, get down at Shaistaganj and take an auto-rickshaw.
