Srila Prabhupada

Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa Puja

In 1896, on the day following Janmastami of Lord Krishna, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was born in Kolkata, India. This day is also known as Nandotsava in the Vaishnava calendar, as it was on this day that Nanda Maharaja, Krishna’s father, arranged a huge festival to commemorate his son’s birth.

Srila Prabhupad’s Appearance Day is a very special day for all ISKCON devotees as they joyfully glorify their eternal savior Srila Prabhupada on His auspicious appearance day. On this day, devotees fast, glorify and worship Srila Prabhupad.

“Soon there will come a time when the chanting of Lord Krishna’s name will be heard throughout England, France, Russia, Germany, and America,” stated  Srila Bhakti Vinoda Thakura in his Sajjona-tosani. Srila Prabhupada was sent by the Lord to fulfill Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu’s prediction that Holy names of Lord will be spread in every town and village of the world.

Srila Prabhupada grew up as a pure devotee of the Lord and distributed Krishna Consciousness all over the world. He made a perfect appearance, led a perfect life and had a perfect departure. Srila Prabhupada lives forever through his books.
