Ramanavami

Ramanavami

The  Ramanavami  celebration observes the birth of Lord Rama, and is one of the most auspicious days in the Vaisnava calendar.  Lord Rama is an incarnation of the Supreme Lord who appeared on this earth several million years ago in the age of Treta.

Lord Rama was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya as their son in Ayodhya. He had three younger brothers Bharata, Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Lord Rama ruled the earth as the ideal king more than two million years ago. Under the order of His father, Maharaja Dasarath, Lord Ramachandra lived in exile in the forest, along with His wife, Sita Devi, and His younger brother, Lakshmana, for fourteen years. After the powerful demon Ravana, the king of Lanka, kidnapped His wife, Sita Devi, Lord Rama killed Ravana, along with his armies, with the help of His faithful servant Hanuman and rescued His wife Sita Devi. The sage Valmiki tells the narrative of Lord Ramachandra’s adventures in his Ramayana.

Lord Rama was an ideal husband, brother and master.
Lord Rama was also an ideal son. He was always respectful of his mothers and always obeyed his father. He was a perfect king and ruled for 14,000 years. His reign till today is called Rama Rajya. When Lord Rama was ruling His citizens there was no famine in His kingdom, no scarcity of food and no disease. The people in His kingdom had a strong bond of love toward Him. They lived only to serve and please Him. He was very strict with miscreants and punished them when necessary. He was handsome, strong, brave, chivalrous, fair, gentle, sweet, kind and always merciful to His devotees and all the citizens of His kingdom.
