Radhastami

Radhastami

Srimati Radharani, the eternal consort of Lord Krishna, appeared on this auspicious day. Radhastami is a very special day for the Gaudiya Vaishnavas, as by obtaining the mercy of Srimati Radharani one can easily achieve Krishna-prema, love of Godhead. Radha is Lord Krishna’s manifest internal pleasure potency and dearest servant.

Srimati Radharani’s glorious birth occurred on the eighth day of the bright moon in the month of Bhadra. Although generally not full on that day, the moon appeared full to celebrate Radharani’s appearance in this world. Among all of Krishna’s consorts in Vrindavana, Srimati Radharani is the greatest -She is the queen of Vrndavana Dham.

On Radhastami day, the temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and garlands. Srimati Radharani’s glories are narrated in the morning Srimad Bhagavatam class. A Maha-abhisheka is performed at noon with a variety of ingredients, fruit juices and many colorful flowers. Devotees prepare an elaborate offering of Bhoga (foodstuff) with more than 108 items. After the Abhisheka, bhoga is offered for the deity and maha-arati is performed. Devotees fast till noon and subsequently enjoy a transcendental feast in the afternoon.
