Jhulana-Yatra

Jhulana-Yatra (Swing festival)

Swing festival of Radha – Krishna is called Jhulana-yatra. It is celebrated to commemorate Radha- Krishna’s pastime of swinging on a decorsted swing in forest of Vrindavana.

According to Srila Prabhupada’s instructions, ISKCON temples observe this festival for 5 days. This is such a wonderful day to celebrate the pastimes of Lord Krishna.

We celebrate the festival of Jhulan Yatra (Swing festival) during the sacred month of Shravana (July-Aug). We begin on the Pavitropanna Ekadashi in the waxing phase of the moon and continue till Sawan Purnima (Full moon) i.e. for 5 days.

The Deities of Radha and Krishna are placed on a beautifully flower-decorated swing in the temple hall. After receiving the traditional Arati worship, the Deities are swung by the devotees present. Swing is decorated with all types of flowers and different creepers and leaves which creates an ambience that that the swing has appeared directly from Vrindavan Dham, the holy place of Lord Krishna. On that day, devotees very diligently, with heart and soul, prepare special arrangements for the pleasure of Sri Sri Radha Govinda, culminating in a gorgeous festival, enlivening all the visitors.

Devotees coming to festival offers special prayers, while swinging the Lord repeatedly, to the accompaniment of ecstatic Kirtan. The atmosphere in the temple is exciting and jubilant as everyone gets a chance to offer an intimate service to Radha and Krishna.
