Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu started teaching in the house of Mukunda Saïjaya after His student life. Mahapraphu had great fun with the residents of Navadvépa and Çréhatta during this time.

“The Lord particularly teased the residents of Çréhatta by mimicking their pronunciation.”
krodhe srihaööiya-gana bale,-“aya aya
tumi kon-desi, taha kaha ta’ niscaya?
“In anger, they responded, ‘Aya! Aya! Where are You from? Tell us the truth.’”
pita-mata-adi kari’ yateka tomara
kaha dekhi,-shrihatte na haya janma ka’ra?
“Tell us, aren’t Your parents and forefathers born in Çréhatta?”
apane haiya srihattiyara tanaya
tabe gola kara,-kon yukti ithe haya?”
“You Yourself are born as the son of resident of Çréhatta, so why then do You tease us?”

The birthplace of Mahapraphu’s father, Sri Jagannath Mishra, and His grandfather, Çré Upendra Miçra, is Dhaka Daksin of Srihatta (currently Sylhet). Sri Jagannath Mishra was the fifth child of Upendra Miçra. After finishing his initial education, he went to Navadvépa for higher education. He was married to Çacédevé once he completed his studies. At first, eight baby girls were born to Jagannätha and Çacédevé, but each of them died at birth. Jagannätha then performed a special ceremony to have a son, and not long afterward a boy, Viñvarüpa, was born. Viñvarüpa is the manifestation of Sankarçana in the spiritual world.
After that, Jagannath Mishra and Sachidevi went to Çréhatta and served his aging parents. There, Çobhä Devé, Jagannath Mishra’s mother, came to know that Vrajendranandana Çré Kåñëa would be born as her grandson. But she had been ordered in dreams to send Çacédevé to Navadvépa as soon as possible. This was a matter of simultaneous joy and sorrow for her.
Mahaprabhu, during his Purba Banga visit, gave darçana to His grandmother in Dhaka Daksin. Çobhä Devé was filled with great pleasure. Within a few moment, His Gaura form transformed into Kåñëa-rüpa.
The deity of Mahaprabhu was established in the very place where Mahaprabhu gave this darçana to His grandmother. After that, the deity was been transferred to Srikona in Assam in 1125 (Bangla). Their previous residences are now a jungle, though the old residence and wall can still be seen. The deity of Çré Kåñëa and Mahaprabhu is now being worshipped in a new temple, along with deities of Païca-tattva, and mürtis of Upendra Miçra, Çobhä Devé, Jagannath Mishra, and Sachidevi. It is said that for one who takes the darçana of Mahäprabhu in this secret place, the south door of Yamaloka would be closed. That is why this place is known as Dhaka Daksin (South).
